IP Carrier Networks Print

Vcomms allow you to make the most of IP technology to reduce your network costs by providing the security, reliability and performance enhancements necessary for transporting financial transactions.

Dual carrier networks

To maximise service availability each Vista can connect to two carrier networks, allowing the terminal to automatically switch to the secondary network if the primary network fails. The most popular setup is our dual GPRS option, which utilises two cellular service providers by simply installing two SIMs into each Vista. Alternatively Ethernet combined with backup GPRS allows you to share a DSL or similar IP connection without compromising network availability.

QTP over IP

Our connections use Quick Transfer Protocol (QTP) to optimise performance across Internet Protocol (IP) networks. QTP is especially designed for high value, short duration, transmissions – ideal for financial transactions. Using this protocol, Vistas deliver significantly higher levels of performance than a simple cellular modem.

GPRS for transactions

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a data communications service provided by GSM mobile networks with widespread global coverage. This technology, categorised as 2.5G, has a bandwidth not much larger than dial’s transmission rate, but its other features make it superior for financial transactions.

The time to connect has a more significant impact on performance than the rate of data transmission because transactions typically require only 1KB of data. GPRS is a time-division multiplexed technology that allows effectively “always on” connections. With the low latencies in GPRS, our optimisation and QTP protocol, GPRS can produce a low average round trip delay of one second, with 99% of transactions completed in less than five seconds. Dial could take eight seconds just to connect the required “phone call”. Our fully visible networks record and report communications and device transaction durations so you can see for yourself how the network performs.

The advantages of wireless combined with optimisation, reliability, and security make GPRS a very effective transportation medium for transactions.

Other carrier networks

Vcomms Vistas are equipped with an Ethernet port to allow connections to LAN, ADSL/DSL, VSAT and other IP based connections. These connections can either be shared with local networking equipment or dedicated to the ATM or POS terminal. With Vcomms end-to-end security your financial transactions are safe over any carrier network.
