Vista Network Access Devices Print

Vistas connect your existing terminals to a world class network over low cost IP networks.

Vista Access Device
GPRS Vista

Your ATMs or POS terminals no longer require a phone line because now you can deliver a higher quality service using secure wireless technology.

Legacy ATM and POS terminals typically connect to WAN networks using dedicated RS232 and RS485 lines or leased and dial-in V.22 lines. Typically they connect to a Front End Processor (FEP) and run HDLC, BISYNC, ASYNC or other similar industry standard protocols. Vcomms' Vista hardware devices, small units located at the ATM or POS site, provide IP network access for these legacy ATM and POS terminals. The Vista accepts the legacy interface and protocol while creating a managed IP connection to a central server, which is in essence an IP based FEP. The Vista transmits transactions from the legacy protocol to the central server in an IP based protocol called QTP. The central server maintains connections with the banks' hosts or switches and routes the transactions and responses appropriately.

By using Vcomms' Vistas a customer can:

  • Connect existing ATM and POS terminals over IP based networks such as GPRS, VSAT, and xDSL.
  • Replace expensive dedicated data circuits with an IP network.
  • Connect branch ATM and POS terminals over corporate WAN.

Feature summary

*Features vary between models

  • Dial or leased line emulation for legacy terminal connections
  • Data transmission using QTP (Quick Transaction Protocol) over IP networks
  • Tightly controlled GPRS modem built in (wireless models)
  • Connections with up to two cellular networks using two SIMs (for wireless models)
  • Ethernet for ADSL/DSL, VSAT, LAN or other network technologies
  • Authentication and encryption processing
  • Ability to automatically connect to an alternative server upon server failure
  • Ability to automatically switch to a backup network upon failure of the primary communications network
  • Connection performance recording for collection by the FEP server

Vista Models

Vista devices are available for ATM and EFTPOS applications for cellular or wired connectivity, including wired with wireless back up.

Vista ATM adaptor

The Vistas for ATMs provide RS232 (leased-line) and TCP/IP interfaces for connection to ATM terminals. All ATM Vista models provide an IP connection to the network allowing DSL, VSAT, WAN and other network access methods. The wireless Vista provides a GPRS connection to the network, enabling dual networking where the Vista switches to a secondary GPRS operator in the event of an outage or failure on the primary GPRS or wired network.

Vista POS adaptor

The Vistas for EFTPOS provide V.22/V.22bis (emulating PSTN dial-line and leased-line) and TCP/IP interfaces for connection to POS terminals including support for multi-lane/multi-drop. All EFTPOS Vista models provide an IP connection to the network allowing DSL, VSAT, WAN and other network access methods. The wireless Vista provides a GPRS connection to the network, enabling dual networking where the Vista switches to a secondary GPRS operator in the event of an outage or failure on the primary GPRS or wired network.

Protocol Support

Vistas are transparent to transaction message formats such as ISO8583 and support the following terminal-side data link and network transport protocols:

  • SDLC and HDLC-NRM
  • 3270/3275 BSC (BISYNC)
  • NCR/X3.28 (sync/async)
  • Burroughs TC500/700 poll select (sync/async)
  • TCP/IP
  • ASYNC
Thus enabling networks utilising:
  • TPDU
  • Visa I/II/III, APACS 30 (U.K.), 3201 (Canada), CommLink (Australia)
  • SNA (PU 2.0/2.1 and LU 0,1,2,3,7)
  • NDC+
  • NIST (Non-Identified Synchronous Terminals)

Please contact us if you are unsure of our technology's compatibility with your terminals or protocols or you would like more information.
